David Mitchell returns in BBC Ludwig series two with changes

David Mitchell will reprise his role as John 'Ludwig' Taylor in the BBC crime drama Ludwig, which has been renewed for a second series. Creator Mark Brotherhood has outlined changes viewers can expect.

New characters join the cast

Ben Ashenden will play DC Ethan Cole, and Rumi Sutton will portray DC Caitlin Sullivan. Both characters are unaware of Ludwig's true identity. Mark Bonnar and Sian Clifford also join the cast, while Gerran Howell will not return as he has joined the American medical drama The Pitt.

Plot details for series two

The synopsis reveals that Ludwig is now a Crime Scene Consultant working with DCI Russell Carter on impossible crimes. He is no longer masquerading as his brother, but his twin James is still missing. Ludwig and his sister-in-law Lucy continue their search, forbidden from using police resources.

Brotherhood told Radio Times: "The mystery remains. His brother is still missing. Lucy still needs his help, and he's still actively looking for him without telling the police."
