David Corenswet has been hailed as a 'real life' Superman after leaping to his co-star Milly Alcock's defence at the premiere of her new movie Supergirl.
Red Carpet Incident
In video footage from the red carpet in New York City on Monday, David, who plays Superman in James Gunn's DC Universe, can be seen confronting a photographer for touching Milly's back without permission. As fans crammed into the event, David looked visibly annoyed with the photographer for breaching his co-star's privacy. Putting himself between the actress and the line of media, he raises his hand at the photographer to tell him to stop. Shortly afterwards, he joins Milly along with Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult, who play Lois Lane and Lex Luthor respectively.
Fan Reactions
Responding to the moment online, fans of the superhero franchise were proud of David's actions. One user called @homeofdcu commented: 'Why would you put your hands on an actress at their movie premiere as a photographer?' Another account called @screenmug added: 'He shouldn't have done that. Nope. No way.' Bobbi also said: 'God, I love how David jumped in instantly,' while Adam added: 'Protective cousin moment.' Meanwhile, another user wrote: 'Ugh I love David Corenswet he really is Superman.' Finally, Abdullah argued: 'A big respect for David for stepping up like that. Photographers need to keep their hands to themselves.'
About Supergirl
Supergirl sees David return as the Man of Steel, but it is Milly as Supergirl, whose name is Kara Zor-El, who leads the action. A synopsis for the film reads: 'Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, joins forces with an unlikely companion on an interstellar journey of vengeance and justice when an unexpected adversary strikes too close to home.' The trailer then reveals her beloved dog Krypto, who became a fan favorite in Gunn's first Superman film, in dire trouble.
Salary Disparity
This comes after it was revealed that David earned $1,250,000 less than his co-star Nicholas in the first Superman movie. According to a report from Puck, David and his onscreen love interest Rachel only earned $750,000 for their work. The former Skins star, however, earned a much more impressive $2,000,000 for playing the vile Lex Luthor, which makes him the highest paid member of the cast.
Supergirl is in theaters on June 26.
