Sir David Beckham has praised his mother Sandra for “always being there for us all” as he wished her a happy birthday. The former footballer, 51, shared a carousel of throwback photos along with a heartfelt message on Instagram on Friday to mark the occasion.
Throwback Photos and Heartfelt Message
The cover photo showed an old snap of the former football star as a toddler being held by his mother, followed by another throwback photo of them with one of Sir David’s sisters. The post, shared to his 87.2 million followers, also included recent photos of Sir David and his mother and an old family photo of him with his mother and two sisters, Joanne and Lynne.
Sir David wrote: “Happy birthday Mum, hope you have the best day because if anyone deserves it it’s you. Thank you for always being there for us all, we love you so much.” The former Manchester United player also joked that he is sending her a cup with his name on it as a gift, and said “love you mum” followed by heart emojis.
Well-Wishes from Family and Fans
The comments were flooded with well-wishers, including celebrity hairstylist Ken Paves. Sir David’s wife, Lady Victoria Beckham, also wished her mother-in-law happy birthday on her Instagram story, writing “we love you so, so much” followed by white heart emojis. The message was accompanied by a photo of the Spice Girl and Sir David smiling alongside Sandra, who was sitting in front of a large birthday cake with lighted candles.
Close Relationship and Family Dynamics
Sir David is known for his close relationship with his mother, and the two normally attend the Wimbledon tennis tournament together most years. He also took his mother and father Ted along to Windsor Castle last year when he was knighted for services to sport and charity. Sir David is famed for his successful two-decade football career, becoming the first English player to win league titles in four countries: England, Spain, the US and France.
The London-born star has been married to singer and fashion designer Lady Beckham, known to fans as Posh Spice, for almost three decades. The couple, nicknamed Posh and Becks, have four children together – Romeo, Cruz, Harper, and their eldest son Brooklyn, with whom they have an ongoing family feud. The conflict began after Brooklyn accused his parents of “trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn’t stopped” in a social media post in January. He also alleged his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, had been “disrespected” by his family. Although the Beckhams have tried several times to extend a public olive branch to their son, mainly on social media, he has ignored them. In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Lady Beckham addressed the feud for the first time and said she and Sir David “love our children so much” and have “always tried to be the best parents”.
