Danny Dyer's Brother Tony: Polar Opposites in Doc

Danny Dyer's younger brother Tony appears in the actor's documentary Danny Dyer: How To Be a Man, now streaming on Netflix. The two-part series, originally aired on Channel 4 in 2024, explores modern masculinity and men's mental health across the UK.

Tony Dyer's Childhood Differences

Tony Dyer, born in 1979, two years after Danny, grew up with him on an East London council estate. Danny admitted they were polar opposites: while Danny focused on stereotypical 'boys'' activities like football, Tony had the confidence to play with dolls, defying traditional gender expectations.

Danny said in the documentary: 'Me and my brother, who came out of the same womb, had the same upbringing, but we're so different. I've got so much respect for him. Never in a million years would I have had the b****** to have picked up a doll if I wanted to play with a doll.' He added: 'Just not what boys do, you know? So I look back on it and I think f****** good for you bruv.'

Tony Missed Danny's Wedding

Tony missed Danny's wedding to Joanne Mas in 2016 because his own wife was giving birth. Danny told Female First at the time: 'My sister, she's my best girl and I loved her with all my heart. She stepped in at the last moment, which is great because she is five months pregnant too. She's a special girl.'

Documentary Context

In the documentary, Danny also discussed being bullied at school for taking acting classes. Tony agreed that at school: 'If you didn't like football, none of the boys wanted to play with you.' Danny Dyer: How To Be a Man is currently climbing Netflix charts alongside shows like Worst Neighbor Ever.
