Former England rugby star Danny Cipriani and his actress fiancee AnnaLynne McCord have asked friends and family to help pay for their wedding, despite an estimated combined net worth of over £6 million.
Wedding planned for August in Los Angeles
It was revealed in April that the retired fly-half had proposed to McCord at her home in Los Angeles on Christmas Day last year. The couple met on dating app Raya nearly a decade earlier. They are now set to tie the knot in LA on August 22 and have asked guests to contribute to significant parts of the event.
Crowdfunding contributions requested
A crowdfunding page set up by the couple invites donations from $100 (£75) to $600 (£450). The lower amount goes towards the marriage licence, while the higher amount covers the wedding cake, floral arrangements, and venue construction. Other items available include reception music, beverages, catering, photography, and a rehearsal dinner. The total requested, excluding cash donations, comes to $14,200 (£10,660).
On their Honeyfund wedding website, the couple wrote: “Contribute to our journey. Help us create our dream wedding and honeymoon experience with any amount of donation.”
Criticism from insiders and public
The request has been criticised as “extremely tacky and distasteful” by a Hollywood insider, with negative comments left on the wedding website. One commenter said: “Cheapskates. Asking others to pay for your wedding, how rotten and low is that.”
Net worth and background
Cipriani is reported to have an estimated net worth of over £3 million, having earned millions during a playing career that included 16 England caps and spells at Wasps, Sale Sharks, Gloucester, Bath, and Melbourne Rebels. McCord is also believed to be worth around £3 million, having starred in TV shows like 90210 and Nip/Tuck, as well as several films and modelling work.
Before rekindling his relationship with McCord, Cipriani married neuroscience practitioner Victoria Rose in 2021 and left her two years later. He previously dated model Kelly Brook and late TV presenter Caroline Flack. Speaking about the proposal, McCord told People: “I cried for 10 minutes straight. At some point, I realised I had to answer. I said, ‘Yes, but I can’t even speak,’ and he replied, ‘That’s okay, it’s actually a good sign that you are quiet for once.’ Then, we’re all laughing.”
