C.W. Morgan, the actor best known for his role in the 1996 film Scream, has died at the age of 72. His daughter, Renata Macfie, said the loss of her father "left the biggest hole in my heart".
A career spanning the 1990s
Curtis Wade Morgan, known professionally as C.W. Morgan, died on Sunday, August 30. Born in Bisbee, Arizona, he featured in a number of films and shows throughout the 1990s. He debuted in the 1991 TV series Midnight Caller, appeared in the 1992 western romance The Last of His Tribe, and played Hank Loomis, the father of the Ghostface Killer Billy Loomis, in Scream.
His death at the end of August has been confirmed, but a cause of death is yet to be confirmed. According to multiple news outlets, an autopsy has not yet been performed.
Final role in Scream 3
Most recently, Morgan appeared in Scream 3, released in 2000, where his character's affair with Maureen Prescott drove Billy Loomis to begin the Woodsboro murders. This was his final role, but he remained active on social media.
His daughter paid tribute to him, writing: "I miss you endlessly already. I will carry on our Mulholland drives and our Starbucks outings. I'm grateful and lucky to have had you as my daddy."
Death investigation ongoing
According to a death certificate obtained by PEOPLE, Morgan died in the hallway bathroom of an apartment building in Los Angeles. His cause of death is still being investigated.
Paul Codiga, a friend of Morgan, also said in tribute: "C.W. Morgan was a devoted father to Renata Macfie, a brilliant actor, a loving friend and an incredible writer."
Following the end of his acting career, Morgan continued to post for his fans on social media. His Instagram account is full of selfies giving a snapshot of his life.
