Actor Benedict Cumberbatch was among the famous faces spotted in the Centre Court crowd on Tuesday, day nine of the Wimbledon championships. The 49-year-old Sherlock star took his seat in the royal box to watch the quarter-finals of the ladies' and men's singles, including grand slam winner Novak Djokovic facing Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Wearing a pale grey jacket and striped tie, Cumberbatch was accompanied in the box by his partner, theatre director Sophie Hunter. They were joined by Scottish tennis coach Judy Murray, mother of tennis stars Andy and Jamie. On Saturday, Murray, 66, criticised the lack of British talent at this year's championships, describing it as 'incredibly disappointing'. Writing on X, she said: 'Not one Scot good enough to get into junior singles @Wimbledon for 2nd successive year. And all 11 British teens lost 1st round 2day. 6 boys. 5 girls. Incredibly disappointing. The pathway is flawed. Follow the Italian model. Invest in clubs + coaches. Not centralised systems.'

Author Bernardine Evaristo, 67, opted for a colourful dress and headband as she took her royal box seat alongside her agent, Emma Paterson. Evaristo made history when she became the first black woman and black British person to win the Booker Prize with her 2019 novel Girl, Woman, Other. Newlywed K-pop Demon Hunters star Arden Cho also had a spot in the royal box, arriving in the UK shortly after tying the knot with husband Christopher Lee at a lavish wedding in Florence, Italy. The actress posted a video of herself and her husband travelling to the south-west London grounds on Instagram, telling fans they were ticking an item off Lee's bucket list.
Weather and Attendance
Stars in the royal box had some much-needed shelter from the sun as temperatures were expected to hit 30°C on another hot day at the championships. There were several empty seats in Centre Court on Monday as ticket-holders with seats in direct sunlight skipped watching British wild card Arthur Fery beat Grigor Dimitrov to bag a place in the quarter-finals.
