Benidorm Star Crissy Rock Didn't Know Husband Was Alcoholic
Crissy Rock Unknowingly Married Alcoholic Husband

Benidorm legend Crissy Rock has revealed she didn't realise her second husband was an alcoholic until after they were married – because she had 'never seen him sober'.

The comedian and actress, best known for playing Janey York in the hit ITV sitcom, opened up about her turbulent love life while discussing the personal stories she now shares in her candid live stage show. Speaking exclusively to Daily Star in collaboration with WhichBingo, Crissy admitted one of her marriages came with a shocking revelation.

'When I was married to my second husband, I didn't realise he was a functioning alcoholic,' she said. 'I'd never seen him drunk because I'd never seen him sober.'

The 67-year-old said the story is one of many she shares on stage as she reflects on a life filled with highs, lows and plenty of laughter along the way.

'And then I talk about my life and being abused – me and my brother being abused,' she explained. 'But it gets the laughing and the crying going at the same time, do you know what I mean?'

Crissy has never shied away from discussing difficult moments from her past and admitted her first marriage was a far cry from the lavish celebrity weddings seen today.

'When I got married the first time, it was a £1.10 silver wedding ring, half a pound of boiled ham and a Victoria sponge,' she laughed. 'The best man was his probation officer.'

The actress previously revealed she had almost given up on finding love after enduring a string of difficult relationships. One former partner left her emotionally devastated after she unknowingly married what she described as a narcissist.

'Absolutely wore me to the extent that I felt like ending it all for myself,' she previously told Daily Star. 'It was so horrible.'

The turning point came after a six-and-a-half-hour drive to see him through terrible weather, only for him to dismiss her efforts with the words: 'More fool you.'

'That was it,' Crissy recalled. 'That was the cage opening and the bird flying off.'

Thankfully, things eventually changed when she met her current partner Derek through mutual friends. The TV favourite admitted she initially resisted romance but quickly fell for him thanks to his sense of humour and kind nature.

'He makes me laugh and I hadn't laughed for a long time,' she said.

Now happily married, Crissy says Derek is her best friend and the happiness she had been searching for all along.

Away from her personal life, the comic continues to tour with her live show and remains hopeful she could one day return to screens.

'I'd love Benidorm to come back and I'd love to be part of it,' she said. 'Never say never.'
