Chrissy Teigen has apologised to Courtney Stodden for bullying them on Twitter a decade ago, saying she is now "ashamed and completely embarrassed" by her actions.
The apology relates to messages sent in 2011, when Stodden rose to fame as a 16-year-old bride of actor Doug Hutchison, then 50. Teigen allegedly urged Stodden to take their own life.
In a series of tweets, Teigen said she was "mortified and sad" at who she used to be, describing herself as "an insecure, attention-seeking troll". She added that she would "forever work" on being a better person.
Stodden, who recently came out as non-binary, accepted the apology but questioned its sincerity, noting they had never heard from Teigen privately and had been blocked on Twitter. They suggested it may be a public attempt to protect partnerships with brands like Target.
Stodden also spoke about other celebrities commenting on their relationship, telling The Daily Beast: "People came out of the woodwork to beat up on a kid because she was in a situation that she shouldn't have been in."
