Country singer Nat Myers has addressed a hateful comment from a follower who expressed hope that his incurable cancer would kill him. The remark came one year after Myers revealed his sarcoma diagnosis, a type of cancer affecting bones and soft tissue.
Myers shared an Instagram Reel showing images from his hospital stay last year, reflecting on the support he received. In the caption, he wrote: “A year ago today I went into a hospital and nearly never got out. I learned something had been tryna kill me, but it ain’t trying hard enough.”
He then quoted a follower who said “they hope the cancer takes me” and called him “the worst thing that happened to blues music since s*** gone electric.” Myers responded defiantly: “I’m sad to say I won’t be headed nowhere. Every moment I learn to live again. It’s nice knowing there are people praying on my downfall, cuz I have an army prayin otherwise.”
Myers first revealed his diagnosis last year, explaining he initially thought he had a lung infection. According to the Mayo Clinic, sarcoma is a broad group of cancers occurring in bones and soft tissue. At the time, Myers said: “Doctors of varying humanity have given me days, or weeks to live, but I live by my odds and not theirs.”
Fans rallied behind him, with comments such as: “We are so happy you are still here, beating the odds. So proud of you.” Another wrote: “Glad you are on the earth with us, Nat. You’re a treasure.”
