Coronation Street actor Ryan Mulvey, who portrays the troubled Brody Michaelis, has a father who is a well-known figure in football. His dad, Eamon Mulvey, works as a senior academy coach and player development mentor for Manchester United, where he helped train star footballer Marcus Rashford.
Ryan Mulvey's Famous Father
Ryan Mulvey joined the ITV soap in 2025 as bully Brody Michaelis and has been involved in major storylines, including discovering his biological father is fellow resident Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) and committing kidnap. While his on-screen life is full of drama, his real family is close-knit and supportive.
His father Eamon Mulvey is a key figure at Manchester United's academy, and his mother Heidi works for the National Grid. Ryan also has a sister named Freya. The actor previously told The Mirror: “I am really close to both my parents and my sister, Freya. They are super proud of me.” He added: “Dad coaches at the academy at Manchester United and he has an amazing job.”
A Family of Football Talent
Ryan's grandfather also played football for Blackburn Rovers, and his grandmother Carol is an avid football fan. Despite this strong football lineage, Ryan chose a different path. He said: “My grandad used to play for Blackburn and my grandma, Carol, enjoys football more than all of us! There's a running joke in the family that I have never played football but I always get cast in a game!”
Rather than pursuing football, Ryan rebelled against expectations. He explained: “They were both very good players, but I was stubborn as a kid. Every person – because of dad and grandad – was like 'you are going to be a footballer'. But, as a kid, I pushed it away and said I wanted to do the opposite.”
A Dream Come True on Coronation Street
Ryan acknowledges that he could have had the best mentor in football but is happy with his choice. He said: “It's a shame, as I could have the best mentor ever, but everything happens for a reason and I love the job I do now. Playing Brody in Coronation Street is a dream come true.”
