Coronation Street actress Amy Robbins, who plays Christina Boyd, has revealed that kissing her on-screen lover George Shuttleworth, played by Tony Maudsley, feels like snogging her brother. The 54-year-old actress, who joined the soap in January, feared her acting career was over when co-star Charlotte Jordan quit in May, but was later offered a permanent contract.
Robbins, who is married to actor Bob Daws, admitted that the romantic storyline with her long-time friend Maudsley was initially awkward. 'It was a bit awkward at first because we have been mates for so long, but we are used to it now,' she said. The pair have known each other for 25 years, having worked together on the 2001 ITV film 'My Beautiful Son'.
The actress, who also volunteers for Samaritans, expressed interest in appearing on reality TV shows such as Masterchef or Strictly Come Dancing, but ruled out I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! after her niece Emily Atack's successful stint as runner-up in 2018.
Robbins praised Coronation Street for creating substantial roles for older women, noting that she and her character share a common trait of imperfection. She confirmed that Christina's feelings for George are genuine, despite fan concerns following her character's previous scheming.
