Coronation Street actor Peter Gunn, best known for playing Brian Packham on the ITV soap, has been revealed to have had a role in the 2009 Hannah Montana film, leaving fans astonished.
Gunn portrayed journalist Oswald Granger in the Disney movie, which earned over $150 million worldwide. His character was determined to uncover the secret identity of pop star Hannah Montana, played by Miley Cyrus, eventually discovering she was really schoolgirl Miley Stewart.
Speaking on the Sofa Cinema Club podcast, Gunn admitted he initially had no idea who Miley Cyrus was when he auditioned. He recalled asking his eight-year-old son if he had heard of her, and later realised the scale of her fame when local news in Nashville covered her daily activities.
Gunn also revealed a chance encounter with Taylor Swift, who made a cameo in the film. While having makeup applied, Swift sat next to him and chatted about her tour and her reason for helping Miley.
Fans on a Coronation Street Facebook page expressed shock at the discovery, with one commenting: 'All this time and I had no idea.' Another exclaimed: 'Didn't expect that!'
