Coronation Street actress Tanisha Gorey, 24, has announced her engagement to partner Lucas Whelan. The star, who has played Asha Alahan on the ITV soap since 2009, shared the news on Instagram with her 103,000 followers, posting photos from a holiday abroad.
Gorey revealed a sparkling diamond ring and said she was “still crying” after the surprise proposal. The images included a selfie of the couple, a balloon display reading “I love you”, and a heart-shaped cake iced with “just engaged” surrounded by Polaroid pictures.
Her Coronation Street co-stars were quick to congratulate her. Vicky Myers wrote: “Congratulations to you both. What fabulous news xxx,” while Andy Whyment commented: “Ah amazing congratulations to you both.”
On screen, Gorey’s character Asha has been dealing with difficult storylines. In October, Asha attempted suicide by taking an overdose but was found and taken to hospital. She later confessed to her father Dev that it was deliberate, saying: “I tried, Dad, I really tried to focus on the good, but nothing worked.” She added: “I’m glad that it didn’t work, I’m glad that I’m here.”
