Coronation Street star Tanisha Gorey has revealed she is set to marry her boyfriend, Lucas Whelan, after a romantic proposal during a holiday getaway. The actress, famed for playing Asha Alahan on the ITV soap, shared the joyful news with her fans in an emotional Instagram post on Saturday, 18th January 2026.
An Emotional Holiday Proposal
The 24-year-old actress posted a picture of her stunning diamond engagement ring, telling followers she was "still crying" after the surprise. Lucas Whelan orchestrated a meticulously planned proposal in their hotel room, which was decorated with red and silver balloons, one spelling out "I love you."
Further celebrating the moment, the couple also had a pink and white cake iced with the words "just engaged." Tanisha captioned her social media reveal with "Brb still crying," accompanied by a tear, ring, and heart emoji, conveying her overwhelming happiness.

Within moments of the announcement, her colleagues from the Weatherfield set rushed to share their delight. Vicky Myers, who plays DS Lisa Swain, commented: "Congratulations to you both. What fabulous news xxx."

The engagement news comes after Tanisha Gorey has navigated a series of intense plotlines on Coronation Street. Most recently, in October, her character Asha was at the centre of a harrowing suicide attempt storyline, which saw her overdose on pills before being found and hospitalised.
In powerful scenes, Asha explained to her on-screen father Dev (played by Jimmi Harkishin) that her actions were intentional, leading to a heartbreaking breakdown for the character. This starkly contrasts with the actress's current real-life happiness.
Tanisha, who stars alongside her on-screen twin brother Adam Hussain (Aadi Alahan), recently attended the Soap Awards with him and their TV dad. Although the Alahan family missed out on the Best Family award, Tanisha and Adam were all smiles on the red carpet with their respective partners.
