Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon has cheekily called for the cast to be able to relocate their filming location, just as some actors did more than 50 years ago.
In October 1974, the ITV soap made its first-ever foreign location shoot when some of the iconic Weatherfield women took a holiday to Majorca, Spain.
Hilda Ogden, Emily Bishop, Rita Sullivan, Mavis Riley, Deidre Barlow, Annie Walker and Betty Turpin were seen ditching the cobbles as they flew out to Spain with Bet Lynch after she won a competition.
How the trip came about
She actually won a holiday prize to the Bahamas for two people in a "Spot the Ball" competition, which was swapped for Majorca for eight people, so that all the women can go together.
In the storyline, Ernie Bishop didn't want Emily to go because he would have to fend for himself for a week, while Stan Ogden thought he should be going instead of Hilda and felt abandoned. Len Fairclough was adamant Mavis would have to stay behind if Rita went - and got so annoyed with Rita that he considered selling The Kabin.
While away, Bet and Mavis found holiday romances with Martin Barrett and Pedro Diaz. Bet decided to stay in Majorca to woo Martin, but he rejected her, and a peeved Bet flew back to England after borrowing money from Derek Whitely.
Samia's cheeky comment
More than 50 years on since the scenes aired, ITV took Corrie fans on a trip down memory lane by sharing pictures from the Corrie ladies' Spanish adventure on Instagram.
The post was shared around the final of the FIFA World Cup 2026, in which Spain defeated Argentina. "Just casually resurfacing these totally unrelated-to-the-football-tonight photos of when Corrie went to Majorca… #CoronationStreet," the post's caption read.
And it was Samia, who is best known for playing Maria Windass - nee Sutherland - in the long-running show that was seen commenting on the post, as she quipped: "Surely it’s time for another Corrie European trip???" to which ITV's social media team then replied: "Say less, we’re packing the suitcases as we speak."
Fans, meanwhile, were also reacting to the post. @quentyquestions said: "This is the best post that has ever been on Instagram far and away the best." @emmagram73 commented: "These photos are epic! Look at Rita in that swimsuit." tsmecarlawarla declared: "ICONIC." @elainecattrell wrote: "These are fabulous photos....the good old Corrie days."
@dannydax suggested: "Corrie needs a return trip like this… camp and light, nothing too heavy. A chance for the stalwarts to catch a bit of sun and maybe have a smooch… OR how about a period piece spin-off set in the late 70s/early 80s chronicling some of our most cherished characters on their holibobs." @dezandjax added: "Amazing times - incredible actresses and characters - the golden era of #Corrie."
