Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) has his head shaved by his son Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) in an emotional Coronation Street scene, as he prepares for aggressive treatment following his breast cancer diagnosis.
The police officer has been struggling since learning that the BRCA gene runs in his family, which led to his shocking diagnosis. After initially keeping it secret, Kit confided in Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) and later shared the news with his mum Bernie Winter-Alahan (Jane Hazlegrove), who vowed to support him.
Father and son bond
Kit's battle with cancer is set to affect those closest to him, particularly Brody, with whom he has only recently built a relationship. Brody was raised as the son of Mick and Lou Michaelis (Joe Layton and Farrel Hegarty) and only discovered that Kit was his real dad after a teenage fling with Lou.
With both parents in prison, Brody initially struggled to bond with Kit, who rejected the fatherhood role. Over time, however, the pair have reconciled and developed a stronger father-son bond.
Emotional head shave
In the upcoming episode, Kit sits nervously in the chair as Brody shaves his dad's head. The pair attempt awkward banter, with Kit joking that his lad is no barber, while Brody notes Kit isn't making conversation about City or holidays. Kit bitterly reflects that his next trip might be courtesy of Shuttleworths' Independent Funeral Services, prompting Brody to tell him not to joke like that.
Once the haircut is done, Kit examines himself in the mirror. Brody asks if he's scared, and Kit stoically claims he's not, saying 'no point, is there?' He adds: 'Whether I'm bricking it or not, it's going to do its thing. I'm just sorry what it means for you. The only thing I give you is a set of faulty genes.'
Brody promises to get tested when he's eighteen. Kit worries he'll spend months worrying in the meantime, but Brody reminds him that a wise bloke once said 'no point, is there?'
