Coronation Street fans have been making a demand for DC McLaughlin to stick around after she replaced DC Kit Green in the Theo Silverton murder investigation.
As fans of the ITV soap know, the detective has been keen to pin down the builder's killer following his death back in April. Theo's lifeless body was found by a horrified Betsy Swain on the night of her mum Lisa Swain's wedding to Carla Connor, bringing an end to his 13-month reign of both physical and mental abuse over his partner, and Sarah's best friend, Todd Grimshaw.
At the time, Todd was confirmed as a suspect by Corrie, along with George Shuttleworth, Summer Spellman, Christina Boyd, Gary Windass and Danielle Silverton.
Sarah's confession and arrest
But it was last month that it was revealed to viewers that it wasn't any of the six, as it was Sarah who appeared to deal the blow that sent a drunk Theo tumbling off the scaffolding outside his flat and plummeting to the ground - before she called on her former flame, Gary, for help.
Corrie fans later watched as Sarah confessed the truth to Todd, while Kit remained determined to pin Theo's murder on Gary, not realising that he had been covering for Sarah. That was until she confessed to her copper beau last week, just as he was trying to pop the question.
And her world came crashing down this week, as despite Kit's attempts to help cover up her crime, Sarah was arrested on suspicion of killing Theo. Down at Weatherfield police station, Lisa interrogated Sarah before providing evidence that they had found splatters of Theo's blood on her clothing from the wedding, after her clothes were taken in as evidence from her own attack by Jodie Ramsey, which came after Theo's murder took place.
Fan reaction to DC McLaughlin
During the follow-up episode of Corrie on Tuesday (July 21), Lisa was seen questioning Sarah again, who continued to protest her innocence. But it made no difference as they had no choice but to charge Sarah with Theo's murder.
Kit pleaded with Lisa, reminding her how Sarah helped find her wife, Carla, after she was kidnapped and left for dead by her ex, Becky, following her shock return from the dead at the end of last year. But later, Kit visited Sarah and told her she needed to pin Theo's murder on Gary, saying she helped him to cover it up.
But amidst the drama, it appears that a no-nonsense DC McLaughlin has been impressing Corrie fans, and they think she should stick around. @cleantethemiser said: "I like DC McLaughlin she always got Lisa's back and she don't like kit. Because she knows he's up to no good. #Swarla #corrie."
