Coronation Street fans have expressed their suspicions that there is more to Lauren Bolton's upset over Betsy Swain's stroke ordeal than first meets the eye.
As viewers are aware, last week, Betsy was found collapsed on the kitchen floor of No.6 Coronation Street, before being rushed to the hospital, where she was left fighting for her life.
Doctors later confirmed that the teenager had suffered a stroke, something Lisa struggled to get her head around due to her daughter's age.
Betsy's second stroke and cause
Things took a horror turn as, once her condition appeared to have stabilised, Betsy suffered a second stroke. It was after this that doctors confirmed it had been caused by a blood clot, which was the result of neck artery damage from a temporary loss of circulation.
Doctors spoke to Betsy about the cause, which is when the teen had to explain to her mum, Lisa Connor-Swain, that her boyfriend, Dylan Wilson, had strangled her during consensual sex, despite both believing the pressure applied was minimal.
Since then, Betsy has been told it is possible that she will make a "good recovery", and she's been trying to plead with her mum, aka DS Connor-Swain, to leave Dylan alone, after she reported him to the police and could face charges if Betsy decides to move forward with pressing charges.
Lauren's behaviour sparks concern
Meanwhile, Betsy's close friend, Lauren, has also told Dylan to stay away from the hospital, and later told Betsy that Dylan had accused her of cheating on him as he struggled to take accountability.
During the latest visit to Weatherfield during Tuesday's (July 21) edition of Corrie, Lauren was seen visiting Betsy and didn't seem to be getting on too well with one of the nurses. When she left the room, Lauren asked if the medical professional knew just how serious what Dylan had done was, but when Betsy groaned and tried to explain that she and Dylan both wanted to do what they did, Lauren fumed at her mate for 'protecting' her love interest.
Lauren's behaviour has sparked concern among some Corrie fans. @sadpphicss said: "I get why Lauren is upset and feeling so protective over Betsy, but I don’t like that she’s speaking for her and telling her SHE is wrong about what happened to HER." @RajinderBa6149 replied: "I think it’s all bringing memories back when Joel abused her & she doesn’t want Betsy to go through the same." @csbpao55 echoed: "It’s very much the joel trauma and I do hope they address it."
