Coronation Street fans think they know what's to come after what they called a 'suspicious' number of Becky Swain mentions, months after her imprisonment.
Those who follow the ITV soap were relieved back in January to see the character get her comeuppance, months after making an appearance in Weatherfield, much to the shock of her ex-wife, DS Lisa Swain.
As fans will recall, Lisa was stunned to find Becky in her living room back in September because she was led to believe she had been dead for a number of years. Her arrival came just days after Lisa and her new partner, Carla Connor, got engaged, and on Becky and Lisa's daughter, Betsy's 18th birthday.
Becky's villainous plan and downfall
It wasn't long before Becky was revealed as a villain and had a clear plan to get her family back. She succeeded in splitting Lisa and Carla, with viewers witnessing emotional scenes as the Underworld factory boss called time on their relationship and convinced Betsy that they should move to Spain.
But the events that followed weren't what anyone expected as Becky ended up kidnapping Carla, who was planning to leave for a break in Spain, and kept her held hostage until DC Kit Green, who had earlier teamed up with Carla to try and expose Becky and boss DI Costello, came to the rescue.
After he found the Underworld factory boss, the unlikely duo were able to stop Becky in her tracks - but after she had already been involved in a horrific car crash on the way to Hull to catch a ferry to Rotterdam, which eventually led to Becky's demise, as Lisa discovered what her former partner had done and even with her injuries, arrested her on the spot.
Lisa's new life and Kit's goading
Viewers later found out that Becky had been sentenced to 12 years for her crimes, and Lisa has since been able to reunite with Carla and pull her true family back together, with the pair going on to marry in historic Corrie scenes back in April. Their family unit, including Carla's nephew Ryan Connor, has since gone from strength to strength.
However, Lisa's past is proving hard to shake right now thanks to Kit, who is desperately trying to save his girlfriend Sarah Platt's skin after she was arrested for the murder of Sarah Platt. Lisa has gathered enough evidence to have Sarah charged, and this week warned Kit that if he wanted to keep his career, he needed to stop trying to protect Sarah.
He didn't take too kindly to Lisa's comments, bringing up Becky. And during the latest visit to Weatherfield on Wednesday (July 22), Kit mentioned her once again, when she and Kit exchanged words in the street. Kit made it clear he wasn't involved in covering up Theo's demise, but Lisa was adamant that Sarah couldn't have done it on her own, and he's the closest person to her, which led Kit to suggest it was "just like she was the cloest person to Becky".
Fan theories about Becky's return
And the latest mention has got Corrie fans talking, and they think a reappearance could be on the cards. @Sjl170 said: "The amount of times Becky has been mentioned this week is getting suspicious. #Corrie." @lifesinpiecesx commented: "Another Becky mention? Imagine if her and Sarah end up being friends in prison? #corrie #swarla."
Meanwhile, @Audz32129841 suggested: "I wonder if Becky and Sarah are in the same prison , it wouldn't surprise if Kit told Sarah to let it slip to Becky that Betsy has had a stroke just to stir the pot #Corrie." @AlisonSelw60139 replied: "That's what I thought. Sarah is in prison & so is Becky. Will they cross paths." @RachelnzScott admitted: "It wouldn’t surprise me at all."
@senecaco added: "Yes, bringing up Becky is the most direct way to call out Lisa’s hypocrisy. Also yes, the repeat mentions remind us of the lead up to Becky’s reappearance. I do wonder if anyone decided to fill her in on Betsy’s stroke? I hope to never see her again this decade. #Swarla."
