Coronation Street fans believe Ben Driscoll is channelling the father he never knew, as they felt a former Weatherfield legend returned to the cobbles months after his off-screen death.
Viewers of the ITV soap, filmed in Salford, were officially introduced to Ben on-screen almost a year ago, after it was revealed Eva Price would be returning to the cobbles after seven years alongside her new partner and her 'mother-in-law from hell', Maggie Driscoll.
Tensions in the Driscoll-Price clan
It has quickly become clear there are tensions in the Driscoll-Price clan, but in December, light was shed on Maggie's own past. As she celebrated her 65th birthday, in line with Corrie's own anniversary since its debut, flashback scenes revealed she was responsible for her husband Alan's death, pushing him down the stairs, witnessed by their youngest child, Finlay.
But as she tried to keep her deadly secret, it was earlier this year that Maggie was left uncomfortable and tried her best to avoid the mourners from Jim McDonald's funeral, much to Ben's confusion, after his off-screen death was confirmed to Steve McDonald.
Jim's affair revealed
She was seen reminding him that he should be careful due to having a hospital appointment the following morning, which came after he suffered an emergency dash to the hospital after suddenly suffering chest pains. Ben wasn't having any of it, but it seems the real reason for Maggie's panic was later confirmed when one of Jim's mates recognised her.
While Maggie tried to brush Declan off in the pub's backyard, he revealed that he knew she was the woman Jim had had an affair with years ago, and Corrie fans' theory that Ben was Jim's son, making Steve his half-brother, was soon confirmed.
Fans react to Ben's anger
Months since the revelation and during Thursday's (October 1) episode of Corrie, viewers felt Ben was channelling his late biological father as he fumed over being told the identity of Eva's recent attacker.
@NicolaHighHeels said: "Ben 'Jim Jnr So It Is' Driscoll proper has his Daddys temper so he does! #Corrie." @RyanSoapKing25 commented: "An angry Ben always reminds me of Big Jim McDonald when he was angry #Corrie." @cb_038 added: "Jim McDonald junior kicking off again #Corrie."
As viewers saw last week, a poorly Eva closed up the Rovers early, when she found her nephew, Sam Blakeman, looking for his missing phone, which had earlier been confiscated by dad, Nick Tilsley. As Eva caught him by surprise, a panicked Sam tried to get away and in the process, knocked her down the cellar steps. But instead of getting help, he stood over her lifeless body.
He eventually realised she was alive, but instead of getting help, he rushed out, and it was Glenda Shuttleworth who eventually found Eva in a bit of a state and called the emergency services for help. Eva was then seen recovering in the hospital, with questions being asked about what happened after money also went missing from the pub, leading to police thinking Eva's attack was connected.
But as Corrie fans saw, Eva eventually remembered it was Sam who pushed her and during the latest trip to Weatherfield, Eva was settling in back home when she sat down her sisters, Leanne and Toyah Battersby, to tell them the truth, with them going on to relay the information to his dad, Nick Tilsley.
