Coronation Street fans have expressed concern for Sam Blakeman following his introduction to Idris Nazir, Leanne Battersby's new boyfriend. The teenage character recently returned to Weatherfield after being discharged from hospital following a serious mental health ordeal.
Sam had discovered that fellow teen Will Driscoll was being groomed by his coach and teacher, Megan Walsh. Megan threatened Sam into silence, and he ended up in hospital after taking too many tablets not prescribed to him, which were usually used for ADHD. While in hospital, he confessed to step-mother Leanne and her sister Eva Price. The pressure of the subsequent trial, where Megan pleaded not guilty, worsened Sam's condition, leading to visual and auditory hallucinations.
Sam's Psychosis and Diagnosis
Sam locked himself in the cafe after hearing a hallucinated Roy warn that Will would kill him. When his family broke in, Sam had run off and Roy was injured. Carla Connor-Swain found Sam in the precinct and recognised his psychosis, having experienced it herself. After Nick tackled him, Sam fell asleep in the car and woke up at Weatherfield General, where he was diagnosed with schizophrenia.
In the latest episode, Sam returned to the flat he shares with Leanne. He noticed a laptop on the counter that didn't belong to her, forcing Leanne to admit she has a new boyfriend. She introduced Sam to Idris, leading fans to worry about Sam's reaction given his recent trauma and the fact that Idris is involved in dodgy dealings.
