Coronation Street fans have cast doubt over whether Maria Windass will cover for her husband, Gary, after his latest confession about helping Sarah Platt cover up Theo Silverton's murder.
Maria's suspicions and Gary's secret
Maria had accused Gary of having an affair with his former flame, Sarah Platt, last month. While she was right that Sarah and Gary had been hiding something, the secret was not an affair but their involvement in Theo's death.
At a dinner party hosted by Sarah and her partner, DC Kit Green, Maria turned up the heat on Gary with her accusations. The truth was later revealed to viewers: Gary helped cover up Theo's murder for Sarah, who was uncovered as his killer.
Theo's murder and Sarah's arrest
Theo's body was found by Betsy Swain on the night of her mother Lisa's wedding to Carla Connor, ending his 13-month abuse of partner Todd Grimshaw. Six suspects were initially named, but it was revealed that Sarah dealt the blow that sent a drunk Theo tumbling off scaffolding outside his flat.
Sarah confessed to Todd, while Kit remained determined to pin the murder on Gary. She later confessed to Kit, and was arrested on suspicion of killing Theo, subsequently charged due to significant evidence.
Gary's confession to Maria
During Wednesday's (July 22) visit, Kit made a pop at Gary after seeing him laughing with his family while Sarah was in prison. Gary had to come clean to Maria about his role after she saw a photo on Sally Metcalfe's phone proving he was at Theo's flat on the night of his death.
Fans are divided on whether Maria will stand by her husband. @CavoloChe said: 'I hope Maria dobs Gary in! #Corrie.' @WayhaughtLunar asked: 'Sooooooo Corrie when will Maria finally dump Gary? The woman deserves so much better than him! #Corrie.'
@sparker711711 pointed out: 'She covered up for Gary when -he- killed someone so she should understand why Gary covered up for Sarah. This is no different at all.' But @xjeankellyx argued: 'I don't think Maria can keep covering for Gary forever. Kit won't stop until he gets the evidence he needs to convince Lisa that Gary was involved in Theo's murder.'
