Coronation Street star Tina O'Brien has expressed gratitude to fans following the dramatic revelation that her character Sarah Platt killed Theo Silverton. The 42-year-old actress, who has played Sarah for over two decades, took to social media after Monday's hour-long episode aired at 9pm on ITV.
Sarah Platt Confirmed as Killer
Flashbacks in the episode showed the night in April when Theo Silverton was murdered, coinciding with Carla Connor and Lisa Swain's wedding. A dinner party hosted by Kit and Sarah, attended by Gary, Maria, Todd, and Summer, led to Maria accusing Sarah and Gary of an affair, triggering the flashback that exposed Sarah as the killer.
O'Brien shared photos from the dinner party filming on Instagram, writing: "SPOILER ALERT. Well… the secret’s finally out. It’s been a strange few months keeping this storyline under wraps, and last night the truth about who killed Theo was finally revealed."
Behind the Scenes and Fan Reactions
The actress praised the cast and crew: "Filming the dinner party scenes was such a great experience, and I’m so lucky to work with such a fantastic cast, crew and creative team. So now you all know who killed Theo… but the characters don’t. Trust me, there are still more twists to come. Thank you for watching and for loving Corrie as much as we love making it."
Fans reacted enthusiastically. Lucy Fallon, who plays Bethany Platt, joked: "Mumzy a murderer then ????" Samia Longchambon, who portrays Maria Windass, added a red love heart, round of applause, and theatre emojis. Fan Richard commented: "Hope this doesn't mean you're leaving? Always loved a bit of Sarah Lou." Louise said: "Yes Sarah, glad she got rid of that awful Theo off of our screens," and Ann added: "Great episode last night, loved the tipsy Summer, she was brilliant, as were you all."
O'Brien on Learning She Was the Murderer
In quotes shared with the Liverpool Echo, O'Brien described learning she was the killer: "There was a lot of debate in the green room as soon as we were told there was going to be a murderer. A lot of people were playing Cluedo, first off some of the cast got told that they were involved in the storyline, but they weren't the murderer. So by the time it got to me to go for my meeting, I was a bit like, I think it's me!"
Regarding Sarah's future, O'Brien said: "I genuinely didn't worry, at the end of the day this job is incredible, but to be an actor is not necessarily a job for life. So, I just was really excited to be given the honour of being the murderer, and then hopefully, however it plays out, I’ll enjoy Sarah's arc."
Coronation Street continues tonight at 9.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
