Coronation Street fans have been left astonished after learning the true age of actress Jane Hazlegrove, who plays Bernie Winter on the ITV soap. The 57-year-old celebrated her birthday on 17 July, prompting a wave of surprise from viewers who believed she looked far younger.
Hazlegrove joined the cobbles in 2019 as the long-lost mother of Gemma and Paul Winter. She has been central to emotional storylines, including Paul's Motor Neurone Disease diagnosis and his heartbreaking death in September 2024, with Bernie by his side.
One fan posted in a Corrie Facebook group: "Happy 57th birthday wishes to Jane have a fantastic day." The revelation led to an outpouring of praise, with admirers commenting that she looks "marvellous" for her age. Another fan said: "I thought the same!" while a third added: "An amazing actress, she looks good for her age doesn't she?"
Before her Coronation Street role, Hazlegrove appeared in Silent Witness, The Bill, Doctors, and played Kathleen 'Dixie' Dixon in BBC's Casualty from 2006 to 2016. Off-screen, she has been married to actress Isobel Middleton since 2015, with the couple together for over 28 years.
Middleton, also a soap star, has appeared in Emmerdale as three different characters, including Dr Lane in 2014 and a barrister in 2018. She also played Sadie Banks in EastEnders in 2002 and had a role in the 2009 film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
