Coronation Street legend Martin Platt is set to return to Weatherfield later this year, with actor Sean Wilson reprising the role for Gail Platt's final scenes. The nurse, played by Wilson from 1985 to 2005, was a central figure in the ITV soap and part of one of its most iconic couples.
Wilson, 59, left the show in 2005 after a dispute over a storyline that would have seen Martin in an underage relationship. He described the decision as 'an editorial decision that made me uncomfortable' and stated he would never return, though he briefly appeared in 2018. Since then, he has pursued a successful career as a chef, working at Michelin-starred restaurants and writing a cookbook.
Wilson's passion for cooking began after watching TV chef Keith Floyd, and he often hosted dinner parties for his Corrie co-stars. He also turned to cheesemaking after his divorce from his ex-wife Gaynor, with whom he shares two children. Wilson described reprising his role as 'slipping on an old and comfortable jumper'.
