Angela Lonsdale, best known for playing Emma Taylor on Coronation Street and recently joining Emmerdale, feared for her life on Wednesday morning after noticing warning lights in her car. The 58-year-old actress shared her experience on Instagram, revealing how her optimistic start to July quickly turned into panic.
From Positive Quotes to Panic
In a video posted to Instagram, Lonsdale recounted her morning: "So happy July, just had to share this with you because it's really made me laugh. Woke up this morning, first of the month, positive quotes, what lies ahead. And then, I've got in my car, looked at the light things." She saw warnings for engine oil and brake fluid, leading to a spiral of worry.
She said: "Engine oil needs topped up. And I've literally gone from 'Isn't life wonderful?' to 'Oh my God, I've to drop the dog off and the engine oil is low and therefore I'm going to blow my dog up and kill us both and won't get to KwikFit in time." The panic escalated: "And then, brake fluid, oh my God, I'm not even going to be able to stop the car, we're definitely going to die."
Realization and Relief
However, Lonsdale soon realized she had overreacted. She added: "Then more lights came on with options that I pressed and it said engine oil in 6000 miles, brake fluid, half full." The actress, who has also appeared in Casualty, Wolfblood, and Our Girl, used the incident as a reminder to stay calm. She concluded: "So the moral is just to calm myself down with my little helicopter head that goes to the worse case scenario because all is well. I'm over it, haven't blown myself up, or the dog. Happy July!"
New Role in Emmerdale
Lonsdale recently joined the cast of Emmerdale as DS Reid, appearing in scenes where Charity Dingle reported a sexual assault against Dr Todd. Fans spotted her on ITVX and took to social media. One fan wrote on X: "They brought in Angela Lonsdale as DS Reid. I wonder if this is a recurring role," while another joked: "Maybe the fact that they’ve brought Angela Lonsdale in to play the detective means the police won’t be terrible this time!"
Others noted the crossover between Coronation Street and Emmerdale, with one fan stating: "You can call her DS Reid all you like but the world's have merged, she is Emma Watts. Or Emma Reid now I suppose, I can well imagine her having had enough of Curly and finding someone better! #Corriedale." Another added: "Im pretty sure Curly said he was divorced, so this could be true!"
In real life, Lonsdale was previously married to Perry Fenwick, who plays Billy Mitchell on EastEnders.
