Coronation Street fans were quick to spot that the actress playing Megan Walsh's mother, Janine, looked familiar when she made her debut on the ITV soap. Melissa Jacques, a West End theatre star, stepped into the role of Janine Walsh during Monday's episode (June 30).

The trial of Megan Walsh, who was charged after her secret relationship with 16-year-old Will Driscoll was exposed, began on the cobbles. Will had initially lied about the grooming plot but later told police the truth, leading to Megan's arrest. However, during the trial, Janine Walsh worked with her daughter to intimidate Will, causing him to recant his statement on the stand.

As a northern actor this is one helluva box ticked. Enter into the Rovers 'Janine Walsh'." She added: "As if I had scenes in the Rovers and on your actual cobbles !!!! What?!?! And what a beautiful lady is @beth.nixx, was a pleasure to play her Mum. Breakdown said 'Yorkshire Actor' and 'family resemblance would be a plus' ……. I should say so." Jacques, known for her work in West End musicals, has also appeared in other TV shows.
