Coronation Street fans predict Gary Windass exit after cover-up

Coronation Street fans are predicting that Gary Windass, played by Mikey North, could be set to leave the cobbles after almost two decades on the show, with some vowing to stop watching if he goes.

Gary first appeared in 2008 alongside the Windass clan, including his mother Anna (Debbie Rush), and quickly became a fan favourite. Over the years, the builder has been central to numerous major storylines, from relationships to his struggle with PTSD.

Current storyline

Currently, Gary is embroiled in intense scenes after recent episodes revealed his involvement in covering up the killing of villainous Theo Silverton (James Cartwright). Gary's former partner Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) was responsible for Theo's death after striking him with a metal pole on scaffolding. Theo had tormented Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) for years.

In a panic, Sarah called Gary, who helped conceal the incident. Despite months passing without discovery, Sarah was arrested this week and imprisoned.

Friday's episode

In Friday's episode (July 24), Sarah received a visit from DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers), during which she admitted to killing Theo in self-defence. Lisa then informed Sarah that they had checked her phone records from the night of the murder and noticed she had called Gary. Caught off guard, Sarah invented a cover story about discussing a video game, but Lisa said she didn't believe her.

With further drama anticipated, fans are convinced it's only a matter of time before Gary finds himself behind bars alongside Sarah.

Fan reactions

One viewer on a Coronation Street Facebook fan page suggested: "I think Sarah will get not guilty in court for murder, but Gary will get guilty for helping her and go to prison." Another added: "I think Gary will hand himself in to the police and say he killed Theo to protect Sarah!" A third concerned fan remarked: "I will stop watching it if that happens; they can't send the wrong guy to prison."

Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
