Coronation Street fans distracted by Maria at dinner party

Coronation Street fans were left distracted by a character they said they had 'missed' as a dramatic dinner party unfolded in Weatherfield, but the person in question hasn't actually been missing from the cobbles.

During Monday's (June 22) episode of the ITV soap, Kit Green discovered that his partner Sarah Platt had invited Todd Grimshaw and Summer Spellman round for dinner after being teased by his son Brody Michaelis that Sarah had a better offer. Suspicious, having caught Sarah lying about her whereabouts with Gary Windass, Kit added Gary and his wife Maria to the guest list.

Maria's Fiery Return

As Corrie fans know, Sarah and Gary have been hiding something for weeks, with Maria suspecting the former couple are having an affair. As the dinner party descended into chaos, Maria seized the opportunity to turn up the heat on Gary, accusing him and Sarah of having an affair. While the truth wasn't revealed around the table, a dark flashback showed the real reason for their secretive behavior: Sarah had killed Theo Silverton in self-defense, and Gary helped her cover it up.

Viewers on social media praised Maria's performance. @ThomasR14336083 said: "Maria is on fire tonight, toying & ripping Gary & Sarah apart. And from her point of view it absolutely seems like they are having an affair. #Corrie." @agf1052 commented: "Oh there’s the feisty Maria Connor! I’ve missed you! #Corrie."

Mixed Reactions from Fans

However, some fans were quick to call out Maria's hypocrisy. @BusesInChester posted: "You were at it with Aidan Maria? Your a fine one to talk about affairs #corrie." @RyanSoapKing25 shared: "What a great 15 mins of drama that was. Although Maria is one to talk about affairs when she had one with Aidan Connor #Corrie." @jonnymgdraws added: "Maria throwing a strop at the dinner when she’s had more affairs than soft Mick, in fact I’d say that’s basically all she’s known for. Hilarious. #corrie."

Despite the mixed reactions, many agreed that Maria stole the episode. @MaryLuvsLaughin posted: "I think Maria (Samia Longchambon) really stole tonight's episode #Corrie." @1stLadyHooligan wrote: "pmsl at Maria sounding off at Kit & Sarah's dinner party! they should've sold tickets for this disaster! #corrie."
