Coronation Street spoilers have revealed Claire Sweeney's explosive exit storyline. The Liverpool-born actress has been a fan-favourite character on the cobbles since joining the ITV soap in 2023. She was flooded with supportive messages when she announced her decision to depart her role as Cassie Plummer last year.
The 55-year-old has been at the heart of several major storylines over the years after Cassie repaired her estranged relationship with her son Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall). She also became Ken Barlow's (Will Roache) carer before pursuing a relationship with Tracy Barlow's (Kate Ford) ex-Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson).
Cassie's Exit Storyline Begins
The actress' final scenes will start to play out on screen over the coming weeks. Cassie's exit storyline is already being put in place, following the arrival of former flame Ross, who is Tyrone's biological dad. Unhappy with his unexpected return, Cassie is keen to keep Ross out of their lives. Next week, she takes her plan to the next level and shows Steve an app where you can post reviews of ex boyfriends.
Cassie explains how she’s uploaded a photo of Ross in the hope that there will be a deluge of horror stories that she can show to Tyrone, proving that his dad is a monster. Steve advises her to delete it, but will she agree?
Alison Shave Appears
Later in the week, Cassie takes a call from one of Ross’s exes, a woman named Alison Shave. Ross overhears and recognises her name. Cassie summons Steve, Tyrone, Tracy and Ross to the Rovers and introduces them to Alison, Ross’s ex-girlfriend, and reveals how Ross stole money from her and threatened her. How will Ross react?
Cassie fears she hasn't succeeded, as she later finds Tyrone, Ross and Tracy enjoying drinks in the Rovers. When Ross reveals that he’s accepted a job at Highfield Prison and he’ll be staying in the area, Cassie’s furious and stalks back out. At No.1, Steve advises Cassie to keep her cool and assures her that at some point Ross will show his true colours and Tyrone will see him for who he really is.
Birthday Drama
During Wednesday's episode, Ross calls at No.9 and reveals that it’s his birthday. Fiz insists that he, Tracy, Cassie and Steve must come for tea. She struggles as everyone sings his praises and Tracy tells everyone how great it is to be in a relationship with a real alpha male. Having gone outside to get some air, she returns to find them all singing 'Happy Birthday' to him and decides she can't keep quiet any longer. What will she say?
Drug Test Sabotage
The next day, Cassie calls at No.1 and is furious to realise Ross stayed the night there. When Ross reveals that he starts his new job today and has to take a drug test, Cassie makes a mental note. Seeing Amy sharing her smoothies with him and filling up his travel mug, she has an idea. Mixing some of Tyrone’s tablets into the drink, she makes her escape, unaware she has dropped the pill packet. But she is caught red-handed when Steve finds an empty strip of strong pain killers in her cardigan pockets. When Steve tells her their relationship is over and Tyrone throws her out, has Cassie burned her last bridge in Weatherfield?
