Michael Byrne, who portrayed Ted Page on Coronation Street and appeared in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, has died at the age of 82, his family has confirmed.

Long-Lost Father on Coronation Street

Byrne played Gail Platt's estranged father Ted Page on the ITV soap from 2008 to 2010. He notably walked Gail down the aisle at her wedding to Joe McIntyre. The character returned briefly in 2021 before departing the programme.

The Hampstead-born actor's career spanned over five decades. He appeared in major films including Braveheart, the James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade as Colonel Vogel. In 2010, he played the formidable wizard Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.
