Gavin & Stacey creators James Corden and Ruth Jones will reunite for their new comedy drama series The Choir. The eight-episode show will air on Apple TV and feature guest appearances by Hannah Waddingham, James McAvoy and Jim Broadbent.

Brother and sister story

The series follows brother and sister Ben (Corden) and Lisa (Jones), who have not seen each other for several years. Ben has been living abroad, while Lisa has continued living in their small town where “nothing ever happens”.

But when events take a sorry turn, Ben is forced to return to “a life he never wanted, a town he never liked and a family from which he’s estranged”.

Cast and production

The ensemble cast includes Tom Davis, Rosie Sheehy, Susan Brown, Jason Watkins, Alexandria Riley, Sylvestra Le Touzel, Tom Edden, Gary Lamont, Emily Lloyd-Saini, Stephen Leask, Luiis Rouf, Jo Foster, Evie Jones and Farrah Abbassy.

Jones and Corden also serve as executive producers on the series, which is now in production and set to premiere in 2027.

Background and careers

The pair rose to fame as the co-writers of the BBC comedy in which they played Vanessa “Nessa” Jenkins and Neil “Smithy” Smith, the best friends of the title characters, for three series and three Christmas specials between 2007 and 2024.

Corden later appeared in several films including Gulliver’s Travels (2010), The Prom (2020) and Cinderella (2021). He co-hosted US chat show The Late Late Show With James Corden from 2015 to 2023 before moving back to the UK.

Jones has had roles in several TV series including Fat Friends (2000-2005), Little Britain (2003-2006) and Stella (2012-2017). She has also written novels including Never Greener (2018), Love Untold (2022) and By Your Side (2025).
