A contestant on the BBC quiz show The Finish Line has shared what it was really like to take part in the game show, offering insights into the hosts and the unique format.
Contestant Praises Hosts and Crew
After filming in March 2025, the contestant posted on Reddit, describing the experience. He said: 'All presenters/crew on TFL were absolutely amazing and so lovely.'
Responding to a comment about the moving podiums, he explained: 'It does feel very goofy - you can gesture and a lot do in celebration as they reach the Finish Line and progress to the next round. I was too “locked in” and focused on the questions to think about gesturing.'
He added: 'I recall a guy from the series I was on who was pretty far behind from the others and was flapping his arms about like an idiot whilst riding, as if to say “ref, what’s going on?” Thankfully, he was eliminated fairly early on.'
Behind the Scenes with Roman Kemp
The contestant also praised host Roman Kemp, calling him a 'lovely bloke' and defending him against 'nepo-baby allegations'. He shared: 'He was really nice but dipped from the set when the cameras weren’t rolling (though seemed pretty committed to the job at the same time, e.g. reading all of his questions beforehand, checking we could all hear from the back etc).'
He continued: 'Lovely bloke! The nepo-baby allegations annoy me - for me, a nepo-baby is someone who directly copies one of their famous parents’ professions. Roman isn’t a musician or singer, so there.'
About The Finish Line
The Finish Line first aired in 2023, hosted by Roman Kemp and Sarah Greene. The show sees five contestants compete in four rounds, answering quickfire questions while standing on moving podiums along racetrack lanes. The last contestant standing wins £5,000.
Filming takes place in Belfast. Roman, whose parents are musicians Martin Kemp and Shirlie Holliman, said at the time: 'I’m so excited to be hosting The Finish Line, coming to BBC One later this year. I’m a huge fan of quiz shows and with this being my first time hosting one, I really can’t wait to get stuck in.'
