Coleen Rooney has made an emotional admission as her latest trip to Disneyland Paris was captured on camera for her and Wayne's new reality show, The Real Rooneys.
The new Disney+ docuseries sees the couple invite cameras into their home as they juggle work responsibilities while raising their sons Kai, 16, Klay, 13, Kit, 10, and Cass, eight.
Family highs and lows in new docuseries
According to the synopsis of the 10-episode series: "With unprecedented access, we follow the family through the highs and lows of married life, raising four lively boys, and supporting eldest son Kai as he pursues his own footballing dream."
"Along the way come surprising personal revelations, career-defining moments, lavish celebrations and unforgettable family holidays. From their Cheshire home to the beaches of Barbados and the snowy Alps, this is Britain’s most famous and private family as never seen before: warm, funny, and authentic."
Speaking exclusively to the Manchester Evening News ahead of the premiere of the series, Coleen said that it was the right time for the childhood sweethearts, who have been married since 2008, to open themselves and their family to the public in a fly-on-the-wall way.
Tribute to late sister Rosie
It's now been revealed that in a special episode, Coleen returns to Disneyland Paris with Wayne and their youngest son, Cass. During the episode, she opens up about her late sister Rosie and the memories they made there together: "Though she had no speech, we knew everything she wanted. She spoke with her eyes." Recalling Rosie’s final illness, Coleen says: "Letting her go was heartbreaking."
The trip also coincides with the grand opening of the new World of Frozen at Disneyland Paris, where Coleen, Wayne and Cass are among the first guests to experience the immersive new land and step into the world of Arendelle.
Across the special, the family explore Disneyland Park and Disney Adventure World, meet beloved Disney characters and take on some of the resort’s most exciting attractions, including Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain and Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure at the Marvel Avengers Campus.
As Coleen revisits her family’s history with Disney, she also speaks candidly about her late sister Rosie and the special memories they shared together. Disneyland Paris continues to hold a special place in the Rooney family's hearts because of the treasured memories they made there with Rosie.
Playful challenges at the resort
"Disney is a very important place for our family," says Coleen. "We had lots of good times with Rosie and some really special times we spent there."
The emotional family moments are balanced by the more playful side of the trip. Coleen, Wayne and Cass are set a series of challenges across the resort, including attempting to keep a straight face on Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain and competing to become the best web-slinger at Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure.
Wayne is determined to beat Cass at the interactive Spider-Man attraction, where guests use their hands to sling webs at Spider-Bots. "As young and as bubbly and energetic as he is, that’s the one time I can get to tell him to shut him up," Wayne says.
Coleen also says of Hyperspace Mountain: "I don’t like the ones when you can’t see where you’re going. I just feel like I’m going to bang into something." She adds: "We had the challenge to keep a straight face all the way around. I did it. I think Cass did it. Wayne definitely never did it, because he was just screaming."
Episodes 1-8 of The Real Rooneys are available to stream on Disney+ now, followed by two special episodes on Thursday, October 1.
