Coleen Rooney's mother, Colette McLoughlin, has declared that she 'doesn't like Wayne' in the wake of the former footballer's cheating scandal, as revealed in a new Disney+ documentary. The series, titled 'Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story', delves into the couple's marital troubles, which peaked in 2017 when Wayne was pictured with another woman after a night out.
In the documentary, Coleen, 37, opens up about her heartbreak after Wayne, also 37, was seen in a car with Laura Simpson following a boozy evening. Wayne, England's second-highest all-time goalscorer, was branded 'stupid' by Coleen, who admitted she 'just can't carry on like this'. He subsequently apologised to his wife and her family.
Colette McLoughlin expressed her anger, saying: 'As parents you don't want your daughter to be going through that. You're mad, you're angry. All you want to do is protect her. I love him but sometimes I don't like him.' She added that she felt like shaking him because he hurt Coleen.
Coleen explained that when her husband gets drunk and misbehaves, he is 'not the person I married' nor the person she wants him to be. The documentary primarily focuses on the Wagatha Christie case, where Coleen sued fellow WAG Rebekah Vardy over leaked Instagram stories. The first leak occurred in 2017 when Coleen moved out of the family home, and details appeared in The Sun newspaper.
Wayne was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after being found three times over the limit. He later issued a public apology, saying: 'Following today's court hearing I want publicly to apologise for my unforgivable lack of judgement in driving while over the legal limit.' He was banned from driving for two years.
'Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story' launches on Disney+ on Wednesday, October 18.
