Cody Simpson, the Australian singer and former boyfriend of Miley Cyrus, has been left unable to walk or talk after suffering two serious injuries in quick succession. The 29-year-old revealed he underwent vocal cord surgery and then dislocated his knee while rehearsing for a new music video, forcing him to postpone his anticipated music comeback.
Double Health Setback
In a candid social media post, Simpson shared a photo of himself on crutches and admitted, "The universe is serving it to me this year." He explained that he had been on and off vocal rest for nearly three months to heal a damaged vocal cord after suffering a hemorrhage while recording. Doctors eventually decided surgery was the best option, but just as he was preparing for the procedure, he dislocated his knee during rehearsals.
Simpson wrote on Instagram: "An update on where I've been: I've been on and off vocal rest for close to 3 months trying to heal a damaged vocal cord. We decided to operate to aid the recovery. Then I dislocated my knee rehearsing for a new music video and we had to push surgery back to let my knee settle. I can't walk or talk for some time now, and no singing or dancing for months to come."
Music Comeback Delayed
The back-to-back injuries have forced Simpson to postpone his album release and put upcoming live shows on hold. Despite the setbacks, he remains determined to return to music. He added: "The album and live shows have to wait, but I've got some work to share while I'm down for the count. You can't hold me down! I'll be back stronger."
Past Olympic Dream Dashed
This latest health crisis comes two years after Simpson's dream of competing at the Paris Olympics ended. The singer-turned-swimmer narrowly missed a spot on Australia's team at the national trials in June 2024, after which he turned his focus back to music.
Relationship with Miley Cyrus
Simpson dated Miley Cyrus on and off between 2019 and 2020, following her split from Liam Hemsworth. The pair have remained on good terms since their breakup.
