CMAT Hits Back at Relentless Body Shaming After Gig

Irish pop star CMAT, whose real name is Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, has spoken out against the relentless abuse she receives regarding her body and weight. The singer took to Instagram to address the trolling she faced after her appearance at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in Sunderland on 24 May.

Frustration Over Constant Abuse

CMAT expressed her frustration at having to repeatedly confront the treatment she endures because of her appearance. She stated that the abuse is “accelerating and worsening” as her fame increases, adding that her success is becoming “increasingly tarnished by the fact that I would be allowed to enjoy it so much more if I was thin.”

Desire to Move On

The 30-year-old artist highlighted her wish to stop discussing the issue, but noted she “cannot because it keeps happening.” She shared her deep sadness over the online abuse from body-shamers following her Radio 1 Big Weekend performance, emphasizing the toll it takes on her wellbeing.
