Clive Myrie's Life With 'Shy' Wife Including Her Health Scare

Clive Myrie, the BBC journalist and presenter of Mastermind and Celebrity Mastermind, has been married to his wife Catherine since 1998. The couple met in 1992 at a book launch in London, where Catherine was working in publishing. Myrie has described it as 'love at first sight'. They married at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Covent Garden in 1998, just before Myrie took up a post as BBC's LA correspondent, and honeymooned on Venezuela's Maracaibo coast.

Catherine Myrie: A Reserved and Shy Partner

Catherine works as a furniture restorer and upholsterer. Myrie has described her as 'quite a reserved, shy person, unlike her husband'. He has credited her with giving him the 'courage and space to pursue his dreams'. The couple enjoys traveling, but Catherine often stays behind the camera. In an interview with Express.co.uk, Myrie noted that Catherine was meant to join him on an Italian odyssey but had to cancel due to builders at home.

Why Clive and Catherine Did Not Have Children

Myrie has spoken openly about the couple's decision not to have children. In an interview with The Times, he explained that after they married in 1998, they tried to conceive but nothing happened. They then moved and realised that having children would be 'unfair' because of their love for travel. 'We gradually decided it wasn't really right for us,' he said. They come from large families—Catherine is one of five siblings—and they dote on their nieces and nephews instead.

Catherine's Health Scare in 2025

In late 2025, Myrie revealed on BBC Radio 2 with Romesh Ranganathan that Catherine had a 'seriously bad lung infection' over Christmas. The infection prevented them from drinking alcohol and forced them to cancel visits to their elderly parents. 'My dad is 95, my mum is 90. And Catherine's mum is 95. You don't want to be taking viral infections around people of that age. That vintage,' Myrie explained.
