Claudia Winkleman has announced she is leaving her self-titled BBC chat show after just one series, despite the broadcaster being prepared to commission a second run. The Traitors host revealed that the experience left her too nervous to continue, even as viewing figures for the programme grew significantly.
Show Performance and Initial Success
The Claudia Winkleman Show debuted on BBC One in March 2026, featuring guests such as Rachel Zegler, James McAvoy, and Niall Horan. While critical reception was mixed, with some commentators suggesting the former Strictly Come Dancing presenter 'slid into the background', the programme saw a 50% increase in viewership once it became available on iPlayer. The launch episode attracted 2.5 million views in its first seven days, outperforming the flagship chat show The Graham Norton Show, which averaged 2.3 million viewers in its most recent series.
Winkleman's Statement
In a statement, Winkleman expressed gratitude: 'I'm incredibly grateful to the BBC for giving me the opportunity, to the guests who agreed to come and chat to me, and the production team who were simply excellent.' She added: 'Sometimes you have to try something to see how it fits, and I realised I was just too nervous to enjoy it. Maybe one day I will give it another try, but for now I already have the best jobs in the world and absolutely love the shows I'm doing.'
BBC Reaction and Future Plans
A TV insider had previously indicated that BBC executives were ready to approve a second series if Winkleman wished to continue. The source told The Sun: 'It’s understood that Beeb chiefs are poised to rubber stamp another series — if that’s what Claudia wants.' Ed Havard, Director of Entertainment at the BBC, said: 'Claudia’s warmth and quick wit made The Claudia Winkleman Show an absolute joy. Whilst we loved the show, we fully respect her decision and would like to thank Claudia and the brilliant team at So Television for bringing the series to screen on the BBC.' Havard confirmed that Winkleman will return to the network later this year as host of The Celebrity Traitors, a spin-off of the hit reality series.
