Christina Applegate has opened up about a difficult conversation with her 14-year-old daughter, Sadie, regarding her multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis. The actress, who revealed her condition in 2021, recalled the exchange during an appearance on SiriusXM's Let's Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa.
Applegate said that Sadie told her: ‘I missed who you were before you got sick.’ The star described the comment as ‘like a knife to the heart’, adding: ‘I miss who I was before I got sick too. Every day of my life is such a loss.’ Despite the emotional dispute, Applegate emphasised that her daughter is the reason she continues to persevere.
The pair remain close, with Sadie supporting her mother at events such as the 2023 SAG Awards and the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 2022. Applegate shares Sadie with her husband, Martyn LeNoble.
The actress has previously spoken about how MS has altered her parenting, preventing her from engaging in everyday activities like dancing and picking Sadie up from school. She acknowledged that her daughter has witnessed a ‘loss’ in their relationship. Applegate also co-hosts the podcast MeSsy with fellow MS sufferer Jamie Lynn Sigler, aiming to raise awareness about the condition.
