Christina Applegate in tears as she reveals MS misdiagnosis

Christina Applegate has revealed she was misdiagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) for years, leaving her in tears on her new podcast as she admitted she feels "back at square one."

The 54-year-old actress, who was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease in 2021, said her doctor recently told her she does not have MS. Speaking on the MeSsy podcast, she recalled: "My doctor came into my room and said, 'Congratulations, you don't have MS'. I was, like, not happy at all. Everybody else was so happy."

Debilitating symptoms persist

While those around her celebrated the news, Applegate said she continues to suffer from debilitating symptoms and has not improved. "You don't get misdiagnosed and then all of the sudden I'm better. I haven't gotten better, Jamie! If anything, I've gotten worse," she told co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler.

"So I'm back at square one where I don't know what's going on with me," she added. "And that's going to be an online investigation that my doctors are going to be getting into just to find out what has been going on since 2021, why did this happen?"

What happens next

Applegate's doctors are now set to investigate what has been causing her symptoms since 2021, as she faces an uncertain path to a new diagnosis.
