Home and Away star Lynne McGranger has won the Gold Logie for most popular personality on Australian television, capping her record 32-year run as Irene Roberts. The 72-year-old actress announced her departure from the soap in February, with her final episode set to air in mid-August.
Accepting the award, McGranger thanked the show’s writers and crew, saying: “Yeah, it is a soap. But it gives Australian actors and crew so much work. And we are so proud of it.” She paid tribute to her all-female competition, describing them as “beautiful, fierce women of all ages. And I am the oldest!”
The ABC comedy Fisk was the night’s biggest winner, taking home five awards including best scripted comedy, best lead actress in a comedy for Kitty Flanagan, and best lead actor in a comedy for Aaron Chen. Flanagan thanked ABC and Netflix “for the viewing bump” and expressed delight that families watched the show.
The ABC enjoyed a strong evening overall, with Return to Paradise winning best drama, Bluey claiming best children’s program for a record fourth time, and Four Corners winning best news coverage. Magda Szubanski was inducted into the Logie Hall of Fame, delivering an emotional pre-taped speech in which she said: “I am not being awarded this honour because I have got the cancer. I am getting this because of 40 years of hard work.”
Streaming platforms, which dominated many drama nominations, largely went home empty-handed. Netflix won only one award: best miniseries for Apple Cider Vinegar, its drama about the Australian fraudster Belle Gibson.
