Chris Martin branded 'daft prat' after near miss with car

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has been branded a 'daft prat' after reportedly stepping into the road in west London to retrieve a crisp packet and nearly getting hit by a car. The incident occurred in Notting Hill while Martin was out for a walk with a friend.

Driver forced to brake suddenly

An irate driver was forced to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting the singer after he stepped into the road without looking, apparently spotting the packet blowing in the wind. The driver told The Sun: 'I'm driving through Notting Hill and this daft prat stepped out right into the road without looking.'

'I had to slam on my brakes so hard, everything on the back seat went flying and my collision warning system was screaming. At that moment, this skinny man looked up at me wide eyed, like a rabbit caught in headlights, and it was none other than Chris bloody Martin.'

Crisp packet chase

The driver claimed Martin was chasing the crisp packet as part of an apparent attempt to pick up litter. 'I've got no issues with someone picking up litter. That area can be a nightmare for tossed out rubbish. But Chris Martin was almost done for — all for the sake of a packet of Walkers.'

Martin's friend appeared stunned by what had happened, while the singer quickly returned to the pavement with the empty packet in his hand. Martin was reportedly spotted walking around the area later that afternoon, with the crisp packet apparently having been safely deposited in a bin.

Environmental ties

The singer has long been associated with environmental causes, including efforts to make Coldplay's tours more sustainable.
