Fitness expert and television personality Chloe Madeley has given a raw and honest account of her separation from former rugby star James Haskell, describing the process as 'very volatile' and admitting she suffered a period of depression after their split.
The Emotional Rollercoaster of Separation
In a candid interview, the 38-year-old personal trainer, who shares three-year-old daughter Bodhi with Haskell, 40, revealed the intense emotional toll of ending their marriage. The couple separated in 2023, and Chloe stated that while life has slowly fallen into place, the journey has been far from smooth.
She explained that the divorce process has been incredibly emotional, marked by weeks of harmony followed by periods of frustration and silence. 'We have weeks where everything’s fine and we get on really well,' she said. 'And then we have weeks where we don’t agree on something or someone gets frustrated or angry, and then we don’t speak.'
Finding Peace and Prioritising Co-Parenting
Despite the challenges, Chloe emphasised that their relationship has improved since the split, particularly when it comes to co-parenting their young daughter. She praised James as a father and noted they still spend time together as a family, often being photographed on outings with Bodhi.
However, Chloe has implemented a strict policy to avoid major conflicts, a key reason she left the marriage. She described receiving the court letter finalising their divorce on December 30 as a moment that made her feel she had 'failed', viewing the new year not as a fresh start but as a time of grieving.
Moving Forward as a Single Mother
Chloe was unequivocal about ruling out any reconciliation, stating she does not want another relationship with James after their marriage became 'dark', 'sad' and 'painful'. She also opened up about her mental health, revealing she needed medication for depression at the start of the separation and had to rebuild her life with support.
Now, she says she loves being single and feels happy with her life, though she admits nights can feel lonely once her daughter is asleep. Her focus is firmly on maintaining peace, a sentiment she echoed in a recent cryptic social media post about removing herself from negative energy.
While Chloe remains committed to staying single, James Haskell has been linked to other women since their split, most recently Big Brother star Sara McLean. Chloe's journey highlights the complex reality of navigating divorce, mental health, and co-parenting in the public eye.
