Chet Hanks, the 35-year-old son of actor Tom Hanks, is stranded in Colombia after travelling without his US passport. He took to Instagram over the weekend to share his predicament.
Hanks explained he had been in Puerto Rico for a friend's birthday and spontaneously decided to visit a friend in Medellín, Colombia. However, he only brought his Greek passport because his US passport was nearly expired. He holds dual citizenship after his parents were naturalised in Greece in 2020.
At the airport for his return flight to the US, he was told he needed a green card to enter his home country with a foreign passport, despite being an American citizen. “I literally have no f***ing idea what I’m gonna do,” he said. The only embassy that can resolve the issue is in Bogotá, around 250 miles away.
Many fans showed little sympathy in the comments, with one suggesting he should have used the “my dad is…” card. Others referenced his father’s role in the film ‘Cast Away’.
Tom Hanks has previously defended his son from nepotism accusations, stating: “Look, this is a family business... We have to do the work in order to make that a true and authentic experience for the audience.”
