Cher has reportedly learned she has a 15-year-old granddaughter she never knew about. The granddaughter, Ever, is the daughter of Cher’s son Elijah Allman and former model Kayti Edwards. The news emerged during an emotional phone call between Cher and Kayti last year, leaving the singer speechless.
Kayti Edwards, who lives in Joshua Tree, California, told The Sun on Sunday that Cher contacted her after rumours circulated within the family. “I had to confess. She said she had heard something about it from Elijah back in 2021, but didn't know if it was just crazy talk. When she heard the news, she was speechless,” Kayti said. Cher reportedly said she was “finally a grandma”.
Kayti and Elijah were briefly romantically involved in 2010, resulting in a pregnancy. According to Kayti, Elijah knew he did not want to be a father from the start, only visiting every couple of years. He told his wife Marieangela King about his daughter in 2021 after a drug overdose, expressing a desire to “make amends”. However, Kayti stated that her husband is Ever’s “true father” as he raised her.
Elijah Allman’s struggles with drug addiction have been public since Cher filed for an emergency conservatorship in 2023, citing his inability to manage finances due to mental health issues. In June 2025, he was hospitalised after an overdose. Kayti said she saw him before the hospitalisation and “knew he wasn't well”. Shortly after, Cher reached out to Kayti and invited her and Ever to her Malibu home, where she showed Ever her concert wardrobe and was “lovely and kind”.
Cher has maintained contact with Ever, sending a Christmas card, a Chrome Hearts hoodie, and later money and Chrome Hearts sweats for her birthday. Kayti explained she chose to speak now because rumours had already started, particularly after Elijah’s arrest in February 2026 for assault at an elite school, where he told police he was a “prospective father”.
Kayti Edwards is the step-granddaughter of actress Julie Andrews, who was married to her grandfather, director Blake Edwards. Cher, who played a grandmother in the 2018 film Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, had previously expressed her desire to be a grandmother in real life.
