Chef Dom Taylor, best known for winning Channel 4's Five Star Kitchen: Britain's Next Great Chef in 2023, has died suddenly at the age of 44, his team confirmed on July 14, 2026.
Sudden Passing Confirmed by Restaurant
Taylor's restaurant, The Good Front Room in Dalston, Hackney, announced the news on Instagram. The post described him as a 'visionary' whose 'bold, joyful approach to celebrating Caribbean cuisine brought a fresh and exciting voice to London's restaurant scene.'
'We are deeply saddened to share the news of the sudden passing of our founder, Chef Dom Taylor,' the statement read. 'His passion, talent and generosity touched so many people, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him and experiencing his food.'
Career Highlights
After winning the cooking competition in 2023, Taylor embarked on a 10-month residency at the luxury London hotel The Langham, where his Caribbean restaurant, The Good Food Room, received rave reviews. The restaurant later moved to Dalston, Hackney, and continued to operate under the name The Good Front Room.
Just five weeks before his death, Taylor shared on social media his love for bringing people together through food: 'One of the things I love most about The Good Front Room is seeing people come together around a table. Friends catching up, families sharing food, people meeting for the first time and leaving as friends.'
Tributes from Colleagues and Fans
Fans, colleagues, and those inspired by Taylor have shared tributes. Craig and Shaun McAnuff said: 'Heartbreaking news. A true pioneer, truly lost for words. Prayers to his family.'
Journalist Paula Akpan commented: 'It was a real honour to interview Dom earlier this year. I was so moved by how beautifully he channelled the memories and culinary traditions of the matriarchs in his family into The Good Front Room. I'm so deeply sorry and thinking of all his loved ones.'
Food writer Melissa Thompson added: 'Sending love and strength to the team. Dom was a very special person.'
A former colleague wrote: 'Dom gave me my first ever job in the cheffing world and taught me so much. So sad to hear this news and sending lots of love to family, friends, and staff during this heartbreaking time.'
Restaurant to Remain Open
The Good Front Room announced it will remain open to honour Taylor's legacy. The post concluded: 'We kindly ask that everyone respects the privacy of Dom's loved ones at this time. The Good Front Room will remain open as we honour Dom's legacy and continue the work he was so passionate about.'
