ITV game show The Chase Around the World has faced viewer backlash after a major announcement at the end of the latest episode. The spin-off quiz show, fronted by Bradley Walsh, sends contestants around the globe to answer general knowledge questions and complete tasks while racing to the finish line.
At the end of this week’s episode (July 23), ITV displayed a message stating: “Some images in this programme have been created/generated using AI.” Viewers expressed disappointment that creative work was outsourced to artificial intelligence.
Viewer Reactions on Reddit
Some early shots in the show, including drone images of Barcelona, appeared to be AI-generated, with slow-moving stock images of people rather than the real city. Viewers turned to Reddit to share their fury.
One wrote: “Very disappointed to see this at the end of the latest episode of TCATW.” Another agreed: “Me too. At least they’re transparent about it, and I’ve no doubt telly as much as anything is pressured to use it, but still.”
Concerns Over AI Use
A third said: “I’m not happy about this… First I’m A Celeb starts using AI for the artwork in the trials and now this? I’m assuming the graffiti of the Spanish artists in Round 1 were AI generated but now I’m paranoid about what else could be AI. Anyone else think even the show’s logo is AI or am I going insane?”
Another posted: “This is the worst part. They should declare in show, have Brad’s voiceover state that ‘Oh btw this image or that image or those figurines are AI so can’t be bought’ - imagine going to that cool souvenir shop to get a Chaser model and it turns out not to be real at all?”
