Channel 4 has commissioned a new series titled The Reclaimers: Made in Suffolk, a five-part programme set to air on More4. Produced by Rare TV, the show follows the Warnes family, who run a salvage yard in the Suffolk countryside, as they rescue, restore and repurpose items that others have discarded.
A Family Affair at Tinkers Barn
Based at Tinkers Barn, the series charts three generations of the Warnes family. Owner Andy Warnes leads the operation alongside his wife and business partner Hayley, who focuses on design and fine details that transform forgotten discoveries into sought-after pieces. Their son Jonah has grown up immersed in the reclaimers trade, while master craftsman Pops, Andy's father, brings decades of experience and appears later in the series.
The show's synopsis describes the family dynamic as "a force to be reckoned with" as they work to preserve objects from Britain's past while building the future of the family business.
Salvaging Everything from Derelict Properties
Each episode sees the Warnes on a mission to salvage everything they possibly can, leaving no stone unturned. They reclaim items from ageing buildings and demolition sites, including castles, schools and hospitals. Nothing discarded is too much of a challenge, from bricks and mortar of derelict properties to worn home and garden furnishings.
Every pound invested in items that others might consider beyond repair must be recovered through resale, meaning profit margins can often be slim. The family has allowed cameras to document every facet of their business as they grow and broaden their revenue streams.
Similar to The Repair Shop
The Reclaimers: Made in Suffolk is in a similar vein to the BBC's The Repair Shop, which debuted almost a decade ago and has evolved into a prime-time favourite. That show frequently moves audiences to tears as craftspeople breathe new life into cherished heirlooms and has welcomed famous guests including Dame Judi Dench and King Charles.
Channel 4's Clemency Green commented: "We're delighted for our viewers to meet this brilliantly dynamic Suffolk family and their business. The Warnes operate something so unique and special, taking great care to restore forgotten pieces of history."
Rare TV's Emma Barker added: "We are delighted to have made our first series for More4 and to showcase the fabulous work of Andy, Hayley and Jonah, as they preserve the heritage of this beautiful part of the UK."
The Reclaimers: Made in Suffolk launches soon on More4 and will also be available to stream on Channel 4.
