Fans of Celine Dion have expressed concern for the singer after she fell on stage and appeared to forget lyrics during a performance at her Paris residency. The Canadian star is midway through a 26-show run at the Plenitude Arena, which began last month and is scheduled to continue into May next year.
Dion, 58, had not performed live for six years before revealing in December 2022 that she had been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, a neurological disorder. Concerns were raised after two incidents during a concert earlier this week.
Stage fall and forgotten words
Video from the show shows Dion lifting her left foot during a rendition of the 1998 song Dans Un Autre Monde (In Another World) when her right trouser leg appears to snag on her shoe, causing her to tumble. She immediately gave the crowd a thumbs-up before getting back up and continuing without missing a beat.
In another recording, seemingly from the same performance, Dion forgets the words to the 1995 hit Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore (So That You Love Me Again). The footage shows her stopping and holding her head before admitting: "I'm forgetting my words." Fans sang along, allowing her to pick up again several verses later as she told them: "Thank goodness you're here, I'm sorry."
Fan reactions
The incidents alarmed her audience, who reacted to clips of the stumble. One concerned fan wrote: "Celine it's not worth it, poor lady she is gonna wake up tomorrow feeling it all." Another admirer said: "I love Celine Dion but she needs to stop doing these kind of concerts. Focus on your physical and mental health and live comfortably. You don't actually need to do this."
Some supporters, however, were impressed by her quick recovery. One pointed out: "She's in great shape and that was a very elegant 'fall," while another added: "She handled it gracefully. Good for her!"
